ohhh weekends

My mom just called me to inform me she just went to Costco & bought plenty of diet coke for me to come home this weekend. Di never disappoints.

Weekends are a little bittersweet for me. I love the time to relax & just chill, but on the other hand I get sooo freakin bored! Will goes out of town e v e r y weekend for baseball. Its rough to say the least. Thankfully my adorable aunt & cousins are in town from Alabama!! It's been a while since I've seen them all, so I'm excited for some much needed family time. Tonight we are all going to my little cousin, Shelby's dance recital.... shes 6. I dunno how much dancing there will be, but I'm excited regardless! Then I have to finish up making some last minute decorations for tomorrow's shower. Can't wait to see how it all turns out! Plus I got McKell a sexy/naughty/bad/inappropriate gift ;) Hey, that's what Bridal showers are for!

Hope you all have fun, eventful weekends! But if you get bored, you know who to call!

busy bee

Today I've been running around EVERYWHERE! Seriously no time to stop. Seems to be a theme lately. I have a massive to do list, but hopefully by next week things will calm down a bit (besides studying for finals-eeek!) Thankfully I'm not too stressed out. But who knows I may be in a day or two. I found this here & thought it was so great.

I've just gotta get all of this done. Here's a little taste of what I have to do for the next three days:

  1. Work (everyday)
  2. Write 3 page extra credit paper
  3. Write 7-9 page paper
  4. Finish making decorations for the shower
  5. Order/make food for the shower
  6. Sadie's Bridal shower on Friday night
  7. Buy presents for McKell & Sadie
  8. Get my car worked on (poor girl hit some pot holes this winter)
  9. Take some online quizzes
  10. Start studying for finals
It's a pretty big load, but I'm actually excited for McKell's shower! Hope it all comes together like I envisioned! I'll post pics :)

Hope you're all having a great Thursday..... whoa wait. Today is Wednesday. I'm losin it.

fishtail.

Thanks to Heather I have almost mastered the fishtail braid! She showed me this awesome tutorial from Sterling Style that really helped me. I have lots of layers & with my shakey fishtail braiding skills, it usually ended in a complete mess. But now I can safely say it looks pretty decent. I have it done to my hair now! Give it a try!

something to think about

I know I have talked about my 'Body Image, Weight Management, & Self-Esteem' class before, but I just have to tell you how much I love it. After every class I feel so positive & grateful for the things I have & the body I have been given. I can't really explain how uplifting and revitalizing it is. Everywhere you go the media or your peers or even complete strangers are tearing you down & telling you if you don't look a certain way, you are a bad person or not as good as they are. There is always going to be someone prettier, thinner, tanner, or better then you. You'll always find that person! So why beat yourself up to be that when no matter how hard you try, you'll never be as good as they are?? It's the truth. You are beautiful! Don't fall into the comparison trap! But I know that has happened to me. I get all ready & feel really cute until I see a gorgeous girl & instantly feel bad about myself! Why do we do that??

I recently attended a Body Image workshop & the speaker was from the Center for Change (An eating disorder rehabilitation facility here in Orem.) She gave us some statistics and research about the pressures we face to be thin. I found it really interesting & totally crazy, so I thought I'd share!

  • 60% of Miss America contestants & 69% of Playboy centerfolds are 15% or more below expected weight for their height.
  • EVERY magazine cover takes at least 6 months to airbrush.
  • While filming 'Friends', Jennifer Aniston exercised 8 hours a day, was on the Zone Diet, & was a chain smoker.
  • Almost every actress has a body double.
  • We can now airbrush motion pictures & tv commericals.
  • 68% of kids who watch tv in their rooms, have disordered eating.
  • 90% of all women diet regularly.
  • 90% of diets fail after 1 year.
  • 98% of diets fail after 5 years.
  • Most dieters re-gain all the weight lost, plus another 10%.
  • 14% of 5 year old girls diet
  • 50% of 9 year old girls diet.
  • 1 out of 4 college girls have an eating disorder
  • The average American women is 5'3, weighs 164 lbs, & is a size 14.
  • The average model is 5'11, weighs 117 lbs, & wears a size 2.

The speaker showed us some magazine covers & what the cover girls actually looked like...huge difference! She also showed us a clip from an episode of Oprah where a 5 YEAR OLD girl thought she was FAT!!! A 5 year old! It was so sad, but it's becoming more common.

ahh I don't even know how to describe how sad I am that so many people feel this way about themselves. The Dove Campaign for Real Beauty is onto something & are promoting such a beautiful thing.

"I think that whatever size or shape body you have, it's important to embrace it and get down! The female body is something that's so beautiful. I wish women would be proud of their bodies and not dis other women for being proud of theirs!"

too much time?

Alright people I need your help. The purpose of this blog was for me to find a hobby.... because I seriously don't think shopping is classified as a hobby. I am pretty busy right now finishing up school & working everyday, but once summer hits, I know I'll have too much free time for my liking. I like to stay busy cause I get bored easily. ADD? yeah maybe. So I need some serious suggestions. I danced & cheered my whole life, so I need a new change of scene. I'm willing to try anything athletic or whatever! Except basketball... no thank you. BUT I need something I'll actually stick with, so if anyone wants to join me this summer, I would love it!  Here are some things I've always wanted to do...

1. Tennis.
I actually used to take tennis lessons when I was younger, but my private coach wouldn't let me leave for the day until I hit all of the balls into her little basket thing & lets be real... I sucked & couldn't do it. So I quit. I would love to give it another try though! (Soo Darrian, I'm talking to you! I may need your assistance.)

2. Learn to play the guitar
I have always, always wanted to play the guitar! I envy anyone who can!

3. Take voice lessons
Okay this one scares me a bit. I am a really shy person & this would totally put me out of my comfort zone, but I would love to see how I could handle this one! Anyone know a good teacher?

4. Run, Run, Run
I'm obsessed. I would love to try a Ragnar Relay this summer!

5. Cooking lessons
I do not cook. Partly cause I'm busy & partly cause I'm lazy. I'm totally content with a sandwich for every meal. But I know someday I'm gonna have to learn to cook.

6. Hiking?

I don't know if I can really make this into a hobby, but I want to go a lot this summer! It's such a good workout & way fun! Plus I need to utilize our Utah mountains more!

These are my ideas. I would love to hear what you do & give it a try!

Waiting on the road to Damascus

I testify to you that our Father in Heaven loves His children. He loves us. He loves you. When necessary the Lord will even carry you over obstacles as you seek His peace with a broken heart and a contrite spirit. Often He speaks to us in ways that we can hear only with our heart. To better hear His voice, it would be wise to turn down the volume control of the worldly noise in our lives. If we ignore or block out the promptings of the Spirit for whatever reason, they become less noticeable until we cannot hear them at all. Let us learn to hearken to the promptings of the Spirit and then be eager to heed them.

Do not doubt. Remember, "Blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed." God loves you. He hears your prayers. He speaks to His children and offers comfort, peace and understanding to those who seek Him and honor Him by walking in His way.
